Mercury 4.3 engine power steering pump?

Hello,

I was checking my fluids before going out tomorrow, and I noticed my fluid is very low in my power steering reservoir and I was wondering if I’d be able to put automotive power steering fluid in it since it’s pretty much dry? I know I should get marine grade but I have a family reunion tomorrow and promised to bring the boat out and didn’t want to wait for a shipment to get here for quicksilver etc.

It’s a 1997 inboard mercury 4.3

Use regular auto ATF, Mercon type 4

If what's already in the pump is red, use ATF. If it's honey coloured, use a non detergent SAE30 oil... Don't mix the two...

Not ATF? I tought its the red atf..

Yes, Merc power steering and trim fluid is 30 weight oil, not ATF.
