I have a 86 Mercury 35 that I just bought that runs great once you get it going. I can raise the fast idle and choke the engine once and it fire's right up. It idles up high of course and I let it run for a couple of minutes, slide the fast idle down and the engine idles fine. When I engage the gear lever it dies. If I fast idle it up, lower the fast idle and move it into gear fast it will usually take off and run great. But if I slow down (say to go under a bridge) I idle through okay but when I go back on the throttle she dies, and then I have to go throgh the "quick shift it into gear and go before she dies" procedure. Even after it runs and gets up to normal operating temp, this still happens. Tach reads 1000 RPM when idling, anyone know what it should be? Does this sound like an adjustment issue? Thanks! :)

Re: Mercury 35HP Idle issues

Carb adjustment did the trick! Amazing how much of a difference 1 turn on 1 screw can make!
