Looks like I am in trouble. Bought a 1960s merc 350 that I was told started and low and behold, no spark. Now I cannot find the stator assembly to fix the problem. Any guidance would be appreciated

Welcome aboard.

You're right, I don't see a stator either. That may be because your motor doesn't have one. It uses what I'll call lawn mower magneto ignition.

What is the serial number of the motor? Mean while, clean and set the points gap under the cover.

Okay so the serial number has been a challenge. I have three numbers on the motor but no plate anywhere

True. No stator. Point, condensers, magnetos.
Set points to 0.020". Loosen and scrub condenser connections.
Odd to lose both cylinders' spark simultaneously; many parts.
Can you take a picture of the numbers or the engine?
Is there an aluminum welch plug in the engine block with numbers stamped in it?

Yes the serial # is 1591947 which is clearly a 1963. There are pints and a magneto. End of points on one side is melted and the magneto is toast as well. See attached pictures

I know where to find the parts - just look online.
The points are set at .020" on the high side (lobe) of the cam.2cylmagneto.jpg
