Mercury 200XL FS DTS vs. Yamaha F200XB?

I am looking at getting a HD2 OB Four Winns. It has a couple engine options. It seems like it is a challenge to find good comparisons or benchmarks on these engines, other than there specs.

I am guessing the Yamaha has bigger cylinders. I would most likely put a 4 blade prop on this. I care more about hole shot than top end speed. Reliability and ease of maintenance is very important to me.

I’m a big Yamaha fan but your comparing a V6 to a V4.
If you want “grunt” you want a V6

A fair comparison would be the V6 Merc vs. a Yamaha F200-V6

Guessing Four winns is a Brunswick affiliated company

Why else would offer V6 performance of one brand and 4 cylinder of the other?

Granted they are both 200HP, but I don't see any torque numbers.

Maybe price was a reason. The mecury was a little cheaper? Brunswick owned boat companies don't appear to sell comepitor's engines.

Don’t see torque figures because you can create torque with LU gearing and prop selection.

HP = work over time

Ultimately it’s shaft speed that determines performance.

It appears both have the same LU ratio so performance would be the similar. If anything one would run a little higher rpm to have same performance.

I’m guessing. The V6 are geared towards the offshore and bass boat crowd
