mercury 2004 6 hp outbroad

I bought a 2004 6 hp 4 stroke merc out broad and i can't get it to start i was wondering if thier is a on off switch on the motor or is it just the laynard that has to be on. also does it have to be a 2004 merc. laynard.

Thanks i went to faq,s outbroad won,t start but i could/nt find any thing there. thanks i will keep looking.
