rebuilding my 200 mercury after #2 piston went out. While I had it down ,I sent it to a machine shop and they put a sleeve in the #2 and #5 and honed the other 4. #6 had a small crack in the skirt so I bought a new one. Crankshaft looks brand new as does all the bearings. I bought a new lower crank bearing. All the other bearings look absolutely brand new. Question...1)With the bearings and cages looking brand new, would you re-use those bearings? 2)Can I re-use the crankshaft seal rings as they look new as well?

Re: Mercury 200 rebuild

I think the answer would be that you CAN use the bearings and seals, the question is do you want to take the risk? what is the cost of new seals/bearings? compare that to the risk of a seal going bad or bearings going bad. IMO I would replace all seals and bearings if I tear a motor down, but you may get away with it and never have a problem. I know a lot of shade tree guys that would reuse them in a heart beat.
