Hey!

First of all, I am a beginner when it comes to boats, so please bear with my lack of understanding some things and using weird terms.

So a part of my engine broke today, causing my boat only to run with 1 carburetor. On my top carburetor, there is an axle sticking up. When this axle spins, it opens up both carburetors together, syncing them up and moving them together. On this axle, the part on the picture below is attached. When I push the throttle, this little part makes the axle going through the carburetors move.

The thing is I can't find any information, or any images of this little part. So I'm having trouble finding a new one.

Do any of you know what this part is called or where I can find one online?

Welcome aboard, Anton.

Can you post the serial number of the motor? Finding the part number is much easier with the serial number.

Oh okay, did not know that. I don't think the serial number is still showing on the engine I'm afraid.
What I know about the engine is that it's a Mercury 1979 50 hp, thunderbolt ignition.

Look on the clamp/swivel bracket on the transom. There should be a plate with the serial number. It may be covered with oil and grease.

How many cylinders? Might help narrow down the part.

I watched images of random parts to motors of the same type until I found a look-a-like, I do think I found what it's called. It seems to be the "Throttle lever cluster" or "Throttle control cluster". So that makes it a bit easier!

It's on the top carb, and it's for sure called Throttle lever cluster, I guess I just gotta find the one that matches my exact motor huh?

I'm having no luck without a serial number. I can find the cluster thing and a throttle lever, the same thing with a different name, but there many types.

Yea I suppose I'll have to check my engine for a serial number. Atleast I know what the part is called now.

Check the clamp and check around the upper starter mount. The mount may have a raised pad with the serial number stamped on it.

That my friend is not a OEM part !!!! Its a shade tree fix.

I was wondering about how flimsy the piece looked, Faz.

The dozens I looked at are pretty stout like the one on my oldie that is still truckin' after 53 years.

Yeah it looks more like this, but they are different for every year and HP model.

I cant see your image, but yeah the ones I've seen online looks sturdier. I'm gonna check in with a local boatshop and see if he happens to have one.

Right! I actually ordered that exact one today from Ebay. I'm not sure it'll fit my engine, but I think it will. It's also gonna take a while to get to me, as I live in Sweden and I ordered from the US. I'll look around locally while waiting as I would rather not wait several weeks / a month.

It's in pretty good condition. I doubt I'll be able to get the serial number, I don't think it's still there.

I have heard that the serial Nr. is also stamped on the starter motor mount.
  • The serial number was on a plate riveted to the port side of the swivel bracket.
  • Serial numbers 4576237 through 4962055 are 1977 models.
  • Serial numbers 4962056 through 5193258 are 1978 models.
  • Serial numbers 5193259 through 5531629 are 1979 models.
