Mercury 1977 200HP with exteral Trim/Tilt motor inside boat mount.

This thing will not fit under the floor on my 22 foot Aquasport. Actually I might be able to fit it if I cut a fair size access hole and put a access hatch in. There are two access hatches close by already and I dont think a third in close proximity is a good idea. I would rather run the hydraulic lines and electrical up to the center console and mount it there. The pump is the type with the two solonoids on it. I believe the trim pump is the Type A. The boat is used in salt water so having the pump and solonoids with almost no clearance between the boat bottom and the underside of the floor. Basically it would sit in the bilge and be in bilge water should it accumulate. Has anyone messed with a similar situation ?

Usually they are mounted under the splashwell, but above the bilge. I had one on my 16 footer, and if fit fine.

I did not think Merc made a 200HP motor in 1977. They did make a 175HPV6 Black Max.

Find your local hose / hydraulic shop.----Have them make up longer hoses.-----Mount the pump anywhere you like.

Serial 5239232 through OC100860. I may be mistaken but I beiieve it is a 1977 or 78. If I am wrong and it is newer that would be a good thing.
I spent a day going to hydraulic shops with the hoses in hand. Each shop referred me to another ( " theses guys will have it " ) but nobody did. Part of the problem was me not knowing what the end fixtures even called. I do not know FIP, SAE, compression, ect to another. Threads , thread count, American, metric ? I just figured they were the shop they would know. I would order online if I could. Those hoses from Mercury are fairly dear which is why I went racerones route.

Gee, it looks like you have it in a good spot now. The splashwell (you will have a splashwell?) will cover it fine.

I am not an expert, but a splashwell in at least the center will keep a lot of water out of your boat. I presume that motor is LS? Splash happens.

There used to be a bag sold by Merc to keep the PTT units dry. It is probably a good idea in your case to use some water repellant canvass or something like it., if no splashwell on the sides of the transom.

Actually the pump you see in the picture is in my worse scene scenerio placement, it is not affixed. I removed the solonoids as I am still deciding what goes where. I was not planning on a spashwell, I would rather have the transom open as it is. You can see the fiberboards the previous owner had there. If I can not get longer hydraulic hoses what you see is what I will get. Yes the motor is a long shaft , 20". I would rather a taller transom and a 25" shaft. I have an older 90HP Evinrude, 20" shaft also which I am toying with instead of the 200 Mercury. The boat is light, the Merc is heavy, the Evinrude lighter. I guess my biggest problem is making decision. The rest is just work.

You could put a bulkhead in front of the transom. They acted as a splashwell, but were removeable. With a tight fitting frame, they kept any splashed water under control. You would obviously need a bilge pump.

The port side has a nice "bump in" that could hold the bulkhead. I do not see a matching one on the stbd side, for some reason.

I would raise the PTT pump up off the deck, to keep it out of any splashed water. Routing the PTT hoses over or thru the bulkhead would be an issue.

This model came with the option for an inboard/ outboard. The bump is where the blower would have vented. It is also used to cover the bilge outflows. It really does not have much structural integrity. The boat is quite light as it is single hulled , I am still undecided on the Merc 200 (a bit over powered ) or the rude 90 ( perhaps a bit under powered ) . I was thinkinng and still am of building a splashwell, cutting in a larger access hatch where the pump would be up through the deck a few inches, the support crossmember for the pump would also alleviate the issue of too much floor being cut out weakening it and the cover box or spashwell would be less obtrusive than the engine box for an inboard outboard. Lots of options here. The shame of it is I planned a quick engine swap with my Striper putting my Yamaha 150 on it and its Evinrude 150 on the AquaSport. If I do, or did it that way I would need to build the transom up 5 inches as the Evinrude has a 25" shaft.

I had several shops act as if I were asking to do something unthinkable. I have become slightly enlightened on the subject of the hydraulic line needed and how I will go about getting closer to finishing this project. Racerone set me on the right track regarding my issue of replacing or extending the hydraulic lines for my Mercury trim and tilt. I purchased a flaring tool and flexible 1/4" line and will attempt to make my own . Comment as you may. This has been a learning lesson for me. Simple to those that know, I hope to be included in that group. Never stop learning..
