Mercury 18XD info?

So I just purchased what looks to be a mid 80's Mercury 18XD outboard in great shape w/ tank and recent tune up at a shop. Paid $550 w/ new tank and lines. I think I got a pretty good deal, now I just need to learn a bit more about the motor!

I know it is a 50/1 mixture ratio, and that is about it. Apparently there are not many differences between the 18XD and the 25XD, but it's nearly impossible to covert a 18 to a 25.

What I'm most curious about is what the "XD" stands for, if anything?

The only serial number I found was stamped on a tag on the mounting bracket #653352.

Thanks!

Thanks for the info! I'll have to re-read my serial number and see what I missed! Thanks!

Re: Mercury 18XD info?

You can get one here at iboats probably, or google powertech props, or for sure---michigan wheel propellers.
Be sure to start your own thread if you need more info before a mod sees it and jumps your case.... :)
BTW, I think the "xd" stands for Extra Durable, but it doesn't amount to much. Just a marketing thing.
