I have a Mercury 18 XD. I think its a 1984. Here is the background on it in case it may help in diagnosing my problem. The motor was never used until a few months ago. A man bought it and died soon after. It has sit ever since. It never had gasoline put in it. It still had tags on when I bought it. Here is my problem. Took it out a few times and it ran perfect. The third time after an hour or two it started flooding like the float was stuck. I finally got it started and it ran but not like it should. I disconnected the fuel line at the engine and it took off and ran perfect. After running the fuel in the carb out I hooked the hose back up and once it filled with gas it started running rough again. I once again unhooked the hose and it ran perfect. I would also like to mention that I swiped the inside of the carb with my finger and a white film came off. I know it cant be much wrong but the only thing I know for sure is the float is sticking after it is run for an hour or so. I can go out there right now and it will start first pull. I could probably run it an hour or two before it starts doing this. Any help is appreciated.
