I have a 2018 Mercury 150 hp , it will run strong up to about 3000 rpm and then it starts cutting out. If I back off a little and then try to speed back up and do it slow I can get it up to 4000rpm before it starts missing. I first thought it was the fuel but It 's not the fuel as I hooked up a five gallon can with fresh gas and had the same problem .
Does anyone have any thoughts what to check. Engine has less than 300 hours on it.

Welcome to iboats
Perhaps the Problem, which sounds like Fuel, could be something other than the Tank.
How long have you owned this motor?
Dirt/Gum/Varnish/Water in the System could be the Problem.
Plugged Filter?

I'd start with filters first as stated. Mercs have the in-line main filter. There is a fuel rail filter also on some/ most bigger Mercs. , like my 2021 115 CT. But it is cumbersome to get to and not prone to clogging. Do you have a fuel/water separator?
That in-line filter doesn't hurt to be changed every year.
