Mercury 150 stator going bad???

I have a 1995 150 hp mercury and have never touched it, but now when running a mile or so the boat drops off of plane and about that fast it comes right back up,real sure it isn't a fuel problem,was told a stator can do the same thing?? anyone have any thoughts or experience like this?

This doesn't sound like it's fuel, but ya never know sometimes.

Since it seems to be electrical in nature, examine all the wiring under the cowl for cracked insulation, loose connections and corrosion. Also look for rub spots on the wiring as well as tight harness connections from the remote control to the motor.

You may find a simple cause and fix.
