Re: mercury 1150 6cyl

Beginning with 7, that s/n is a Canadian built engine:

115 1977 EL 4567952 - 4855152 7087423

7087423 being the beginning s/n for 1977. As 1978 begins with 7112248, yours is a 1977.

Parts List:

Mercury Parts, MERC 1150

Service Manual P/N: 90-86134--4

90-86134--4 | eBay

In the interim, here is a link to the condensed version of the Clymer manual. Download it soonest to your computer as the link is short lived.

You can replace the number 20 oil with transmission fluid. You should disconnect the lines at the trim cyl and flush the pump with tranny fluid. Push the fluid out of the trim cyl by moving the piston up and down. Wrap a rag around the cyl when you move the piston, it can squirt a fair distance:facepalm:.

I had a '77 Merc IL6. I used 5W-30 motor oil in the PTT unit. Never had an issue.

BTW- if you remove all the oil as Dave recommends, you will need to bleed the PTT cylinders. Just add the 5W-30 and forget it.
