mercrusier power steering question

The strangest thing happened today, I went up to the boat to get it ready for spring and found most of my power steering fluid in the bilge. it appears the power steering resivoir sprung a leak over the winter..Got any ideas? the engine was not turned over(batteries were not on the boat) maybe some water in the resivoir rusted it out.

did you not drain the water out of the power steering cooler when winterized? check there first.sorry, reread your post, have never seen a reservoir spring a leak unless it has been damaged from some thing hitting or rubbing on it .

Well, went and pulled the pump/resevoir off and found a small hole rusted thru the bottom. cleaned it up, sanded and epoxied the hole. we will see how long it lasts..........thanks all...
