Diz cap...again. Honestly...there should be a big sign on this forum saying...if you have a mpi...change the Diz cap before anything else. If it’s not that this time...it bloody will be next time.
who was it that said the Diz cap is never an issue ? ☺️ I know who it was !

Interesting that a baisc tune-up fixed it. I'm glad it worked out. (y) Usually that is not the case with MPI engines . . . and they drag you through the mud of parts replacements.

your right TP...but at this time of year just after winter...any rough running issues of any kind on an mpi with this cap...without doubt, first port of call should be the cap. 100%.
Hopefully more guys pick up on this. I’ve seen guys throw countless parts at these when that’s all it was. So many times. The diagnostics throw up all sorts of faults as a result of just this cap being done. Some dealers here in Scotland (famous for Diz cap fail here on these because of huge variance in temperature and humidity over winter months. Up and down constantly), will change these every year as part of the service. That’s how much they are affected here.

I am starting by replacing the fuel filter (which I do annually anyway), replacing the rotor distributor, spark plugs and ignition wires.

First post list replacing cap and rotor
Guess we should have made sure you did that

I read that too that's why I didn't suggest it. I change mine on my MPI about every two or three years now that the internet has made me aware of the issue. Easy job and not pricey. I will say however my original one lasted 15 seasons and 1000 hours before needing replacement, go figure.
