Are there any mercruiser mechanics in here I’m have a problem of when boat in forward or revs it’s hard to get out of gear to neutral new lower shift cable if boat not running will shift thru gears fine so you can cut off put in neutral start back up fine but can’t hardly get out of gear when running pulling on it usually jumps past neutral into revs any ideal the problem 140 hp mercruiser alpha one gen 1 all help is thanked in advance also can trigger shift interpret by hand cuts motor but could be out of alignment or something I’m stumped

The Alpha drive uses a shift interrupter on the shift plate to unload the clutch to be able to shift out of gear and into neutral. You need to check the connections and then if needed adjust the interrupter

If it's a new to you boat someone probably disconnected the interrupt switch because the lower shift cable is binding up.

that was probably not adjusted correctly

there are also videos on adjusting the mercruiser lower shift cable in the stickies

The shaft bushings seize up and can cause the shaft movement to be too tight. Don't know why.

Could be this cause if you cut boat off shift to neutral it goes back In neutral fine just when running

sounds like English is not you native language. . The shift interrupt switch is on the stbd riser with the shift cables. If the arm is moving BUT not stumbling the motor it is not connected and that is the problem
