Mercruiser shift control replacement

I have a 1979 Sea Ray with a Mercruiser I/O. The shifter is really sloppy/worn out. Is rebuilding the old one or purchasing a new one the best option? If a new one is the way to go, I am looking at the Teleflex CH7500 or the SL3 as a replacement. Not having a sample to check out, it is difficult to decide which one would be better. Does anyone have any experience with replacing their control with one of these or rebuilding the old mercontrol?

Thanks for any input.

Have installed the SL-3s in both surface mount and side mount. Much better than the oems. Easy install of cables and setup.expext
290.00 alone
352.21 delux W trim/tilt switches.

The CH7500 is a little cheaper, somewhere around $260. Is this model previously a Morse design? So the SL3 is better than the OEM shifters, anything would be an improvement over the Mercontrol that I have. Thanks for the input.
