Howdy,
Ok, I know I am old, but did Mercruiser change the hardware on the sterndrive props? I got a new prop with a new hub kit, and the insert is shorter than the "brass" one that came off and the nut keeper is different, the old one was a "star" and the new one has two tabs.... Mercruiser part number 835257Q1. This is for a 260HP Alpha One drive. The insert that came off has a number of 826074 and the new one has the number 8M0042201.
Am I missing something?
Thanks

Ayuh,...... Generally speakin', if you swap the prop, with the entire hub kit, it'll fit as it should,.....

Cool, that's what I did. It just surprised me to see the new prop come with a different style insert and lock nut retainer after all those years of playing with the star retainer.........

Seems you have now the newer style flo torq 2 hub kit with a different breakaway design if hitting something just right vs maybe a drive shaft or something worse.... They've made a few versions over the years for different scenarios and yep, we're getting old now.

:D

Boat part number 1068789 is a new Flo Torq II hub kit from Mercury Marine, part number 835257K1 .

The Flo-Torq II hub kit makes it possible to use Mercury propellers on nearly all recreational marine engines. The system is designed to resist slippage, but will flex during engine shifting. It also cushions the drivetrain in the event of an impact.

Fits:
  • Mercury / Mariner 40-60 HP Bigfoot / Command Thrust
  • 70-300 HP 2-Stroke and 4 Stroke
  • Force 90-120
  • Mercury Mercruiser
  • Alpha and Alpha One
  • Bravo One (less than 400 HP)
Specifications:
  • Part Manufacturer: Mercury Marine
  • Part Number: 835257K1
  • UPC: 745061512658
  • Splines: 15
The Mercury/Quicksilver Flo-Torq interchangeable hub system provides the ultimate in drive protection – the Delrin sleeve sacrifices itself to protect key drive components in the event of contact with an underwater obstruction, while still giving you the ability to idle home safely.

The sleeve can be easily replaced, eliminating a costly trip to the repair shop. In addition hub kits are available to allow the easy use and improved performance of genuine Mercury propellers on most outboards and sterndrives!

In 2021 Mercury Marine discontinued including hub kits with most stainless steel propeller shipments so you customers could have the freedom of choosing the ideal hub kit for their application. Check out our hub kit selection chart to find which Flo-Torq® adapter kit works with your engine. Q and K in part numbers can be interchanged; the only difference is packaging. Individual hub kit parts including adaptors, sleeves, etc., are at the end of this page.

Use the Contact Us tab if you're having trouble locating the appropriate hub kit.
