Hello everyone....I've found many answers to boat problems on this site....You are all a great resource. I've developed a new problem that I can't seem to figure out. I'll start out by saying I'm not a mechanic but could probably play one on tv. I have a mercruiser 260, carb, it has about 200 hrs on it. I purchased it "brand new" and installed three years ago in a older sea ray. All final tweeks....valves, engine alignment, etc. done by mercruiser technician. The other day we were out cruising.....about 3500 rpm....and a ticking noise started to develop.......brought down to idle....still ticking. Towed boat in. Next day.....determined ticking noise was coming from # 1 cylinder.....I'd say noise is approx. 1/2 engine RPM.....checked valves.....and adjusted....still have noise....The baffling part is when you pull the spark plug wire to #1 cylinder the noise gets much worse. Seafoamed it.....still there....new cap, rotor, plugs....at start of season. Have not done compression.....forgot to bring it out.....when the boat is on a mooring it stinks running back and forth......will check in the next day or two. Starts up perfect, idles perfect....just tap, tap, tap, Any ideas would be appreciated !!! Thanks for all your past help.
