ok, working on a 1980 vintage MC-1 120 horse unit. Having a little issue with the trim sender, NOT the trim limit switch. Both are new, and are replacing ones that had garbage wiring to start with (multiple splices, butchered wiring, etc, dont trust it at all). Sender for my year according to schematics goes from the sender to a brown/white wire. I have this good. However, nothing says what to do with the other wire. Originally it was shunted to ground. Is this correct. NONE of my manuals for any year show trim sender wiring (gauge, yes, three wires, power, ground and brown/white signal), but at the other end they leave you swinging.

On the trim switch side, I think I have it good to go. Only one direction currently works, but am pushing through that, think its a bad fuse (or crap wiring again...)

Yes, ground the other side. Here's the trim wiring diagram for what I think should be your set up...

yes, that is the diagram that I am working off of. Ill check the ground on the black lead on the sender, and see if that makes the gauge work. otherwise, the gauge is probably pooched.....

It's a standard 240-33 ohms gauge. Pretty easy to test..
