I jsut bought a 27' foot stamas boat that has 2 Mercruiser 165 HP inline 6 motors. its a 1966 the boat is solid but the i want info on the engine and am gonna go ahead and redo the outdrive to make sure they are alright. i have a few questions.

1. can i upgrade the outdrives to newer models?
2. are these dependable?
3. can i ipgrade the engine/outdrives to newer models as a whole?

You can upgrade to Alpha 1's

2. are these dependable?
Alpha 1's are more dependable than the "R" series

3. can i upgrade the engine/outdrives to newer models as a whole?
In most boats with twin inline 6's the engines were placed to close together to install any of the V series ( v-6 v-8 ) engines.

When I had my 26 Stamas I upgraded power with a bracket and a pair of, new to the market, Mercury OptiMax 225's. AAAARRRRGGGHHHHH

Engines and drives are identified by serial #'s

Resealing a drive is not an easy job from what i hear, expecially for someone new to i/o's. buy a proper manual for the drives. be a tough job without one

i am not new to outdrives i had a volvo penta before, but i am gonna attempt it anyway. I noticed on my outdrive with milky oil that oil is coming out of the drain for lake water, from what i hear this is common and pretty easily fixed.
