I am converting my 34' I/B shaft drive cruiser to diesel w/jackshaft and tranny to Mercruiser III.
I have read the post by Don S. re: X dimension, my question, is this info good for all
Merc sterndrives? The Merc III is a big unit, swings a 20"' prop. Also, has anyone done this
setup using the bearing housing that mounts to the inner transom plate?
Lots of great info on this site! Thanks, Barry

Howdy,

Welcome aboard.

The X-dimension is pretty standard for Mercruiser drives. It comes from the installation manual and is the same for pretty much all modern Mercruiser drives.

When you say "20" prop" you do mean Mercruiser Bravo II drive don't you?

You said "Mercuiser III" which is a coaxial contra-rotating, dual propeller drive.

Re: Mercruiser III Sterndrive

He is talking about a III drive that was last used in 1973. I sure wouldn't bet it had a common X dimension with todays drives. Not even sure it had the same cutout.
