just making sure that I am cool with the removal of the tube. I have a feeling that it will be fine and I will get some good sound out of it without all the headache.

You will be fine........ There won't be a very big difference in the sound level though.....

At least on the bright side, if he ends up with a problem or doesn't like the sound/too much fumes he can always install the exhaust tube in about 10 minutes without removing anything.

Initially the sound may be nice, but listening to it droning for hours at a time gets old real fast. It's nice to sit in a boat, traveling at cruising speed, and be able to talk to your deckies without ending up horse by the end of the day.
