I have a 1997 bayliner 2052 with unrepairable mercruiser 4.3/V6 Alpha 1. I want to replace engine with a 1991 mercruiser 4.3/V6 Alpha 1. Will I be able to do the swap or am I just whistling in the wind ? Your input will be most appreciated! Thanks in advance.

need more info than that... theres quite a bit of a difference in the motors between those years... the blocks are the same, the electronics should be different... 91 and 97 are 2 different leagues of electronics... most 91 vehicles were TBI and not MPI, im not sure what yours is due to lack of information... pictures would help also..

Ayuh,... It should swap in just fine....
It might take abit of mixin', 'n matchin', but you should have plenty of parts to do it...

The blocks aren't even the same. The 91 does not have the balance shaft, the 97 does. The intakes are not interchangeable. As long as you are replacing the complete engine you should be ok in the swap.
