I am attempting to align my engine, this is the first time the out drive has been off the boat. Mercury 350 mag bravo III.
I have aligned the engine perfectly but when I bump the engine to check alignment at 90, 180, 270, 360 two sides a perfect the other two sides bind about 1/2 way into the coupler. The boat has 50 hours and never felt any vibrations to speak of.

I have tried resetting the bearing, but it does not seem to help. Any suggestions? It does not feel like the coupler is shot as the splines look good on the out drive and coupler.

Has anyone experienced this ? Thanks for your help. Mike

Sounds like a bad hub. Sometimes they are simply manufactured off and out of round. It appears your choices are to live with it, or pull the engine and replace it.

Yes, I had a similar issue when aligning my 7.4L . . . it has 500 hours versus your 50 hours. I think I ended up 'tweaking' the alignment so that it was a compromise between the various positions of rotation on the engine. All said and done, it was fine.
