Hello gents !

I,m about to pull the trigger and purchase a 2002 sealine s34 with twin mercruiser d4.2-220 and bravo2 drives .

What puzzles me : i believed this are engines of the early 90's , not 2002 ??? They seem to be the pre d-tronic series of the 4.2 .

Can somebody tell me the production years of this engines ? I have also serial numbers if this helps .

Thank you much and best regards !

I notified Fun Times for some help, but I guess he's pretty busy,....
He did say those serial numbers came back as '98 to '01 SBC V8s, but as soon as he can, he'll check in with you to get to the bottom of this mystery,...

When you get a chance, try double checking these two numbers… The first one 0L667048 doesn’t come up as anything known but playing and comparing it to the second number posted, it appears the second 6 should be a 0 so 0L607*** for both.

Problem is both numbers come up as 5.7L gas engines and nothing diesel as you’ll see below.

In knowing the boat year ought to put the year pretty close to the engine year and should the diesel serial number range that’s close to what you posted above (0L) would fall into right around the year of the actual boat. But without the exact serial numbers, it would be hard to tell you what model design those diesel engines are.

Component

Catalog

Model Number

5.0L (2 BBL.) GM 305 V-81998-2001 [0L015751 THRU 0M599999] - Cat.# 90-816596984312025LS
5.7L (2 BBL.) GM 350 V-81998-2001 [0L010037 THRU 0M599999] - Cat.# 90-816596984312025LS

I believe this would be the engine that fits the title of the thread,

The list of Merc diesel engine,

Thank you very much funtimes !

The serial numbers i posted are correct for sure , verified on the engines and boat papers - and we are talking definitely diesels , not petrols .

Its the engines you mentioned in the link , correct .

If 0"L" generally refers to 98-01 , it would ~match with the boat manufacture. That is a great help from you so far !

Your next option to try is contacting MerCruiser Customer Assistance either by phone or their website explaining the situation in the note section of the following link that the serial numbers are correct for diesels but they are coming up as petrols in parts look up catalogs here the USA and you'd like to know the day and year they were built and if they'd be able to correct the serial number for easier parts look up, 'Plus register the two numbers with Merc correctly.... Merc typically gets back to you via email within a week's time frame.

I solved the mystery ( at least partly ) .

Mercruiser was not a great help , they told me that with non us made engines i need to contact mercuiser in europe - what i did . Mercruiser germany was not helpful at all , they promised to call me back and i,m still waiting .

A great help was sealine and the surveyor . Sealine after contacting them tracked the hull number back and confirmed these serials are the originial engines she left the factory . They cannot tell me the year of the engines ( they buy in batches and store them ) but thats the engines she left factory .

The survey resulted in both engines in good health but the stbd drive has a leaking steering pin and the port drive makes a bit of strange noises . Leaking salt into the bilge resulted also in some corrosion issues .

I offered to get this fixed by a yard on costs of the seller or drop the price and i fix it but he refused so i walked away .

The surveyor told me i need to care more about the drives than the engines . While the engines are industrial grade and beyond things like heat exchangers ready for thousands of hours they will when it comes to torque outperform easily a v8 bigblock .

Thats hard life for the attached bravo , especially when the user tends to "gun" them out of the hole. the surveyor expects only a limited lifespan on the drives .

Thank you for the update...Sorry it didn't work out for you, seemed like a nice set-up when everything is in good working order and treated nicely.
