Mercruiser alpha 1 oil leak lower unit

hole on front lower part of bullit leaking oil. Looks like weep hole I can't find any information on weep hole in this area any ideas.

That weep hole is to drain any water out of the drive. It leads to the same pocket as the water intakes.

Any ideas is this a failed seal?

Ayuh,..... There should only be water ever comin' outa that hole, so Ya, a bad seal somewhere,.....

The shift spool is close by,....

Could hitting the foot on lawn backing up cause this .?The lower unit tested fine at the end of the last season replaced water pump impeller when I started it this year I noticed the oil.i can't see any damage.

No, hitting it will cause external visual damage. You have a seal that has failed. Likely the lower shift shaft seal. Less likely, but still possible, the bottom seals in the top housing. You'll need to pull the drive and pressure test it... And just because you tested it 6 months ago doesn't mean it hasn't failed in the meantime...
