I have a 218 Checkmate with the 6.2 mpi in it. I ran out of gas last week and now am having issues starting it. I was told there should be some sort of a fuel reset switch that flips when you run out right? I looked but could not find it. i pushed both red circuit breaker buttons but it didnt do anything, are these the switches referred to? After I was done looking I tried turning the key a bunch of time and eventually it started to crank. If its cranking does that mean the switch was reset or does it do this regardless? Once It started to crank I advanced throttled it and tried to get it to turn over in about 3 different 8 second intervals but gas wasn't getting to it. At the end of the last one I heard a click and the power was gone. now when the key is on the radio and gauges have almost no power (can hear radio struggling a bit, depthfinder backlight is very dim, and gauge needles don't move.) The trim and hydrolic hatch lift still work strong so it obviously isn't the battery. Did I screw the starter? any help is greatly appreciated. thanks,

Jake

It may or may not be the battery, but at the very least it sounds like it could be the connections at the battery. If your trim pump is connected to the same battery it's possible that it has separate wires and connections. Double check your connections and make sure they are clean. Put the battery on a charger and be sure it is full and try again.

Someone else will have to chime in about the running out of gas and the reset switches - about that I have no idea.

Sounds like the circuit breaker tripped.

As a wag electric fuel pumps are not at all happy about running DRY and running out of fuel and than trying to start again without priming it could kill it

This will need to be tested and you really need a service manual to procede in a logical manner that will find the problem with changeing parts and praying

try and locate your vst. Pull the vent, and try to funell in some gas and see if that gets you going.... after of course you get your power back.
Post your engine serial ##
you may have a fuse down on the starter motor... DonS will probably chime in with a pic

Check for fuel pressure. There should be a nozzle very similar to a car tire on the fuel rail. I think you should have 40-50 psi. Or just disconnect fuel line after your fuel pump, crank the motor and check for flow...

There is no fuel system "reset switch". You should be able to reprime the fuel system by taking off the f/w seperator, filling it with fuel, and reinstalling it. Then cycle the key a few times and bleed off the air at the shrader valve. There is no Vapor Seperator Tank (VST) on your engine, and the correct fuel pressure would be 43PSI.
