Now that looks a bit funky, I would do the thru hull using a thru hull and hose to the pump and somehow block the transom side.
That kit is just a fourth option (that I know of) to consider doing should someone not want to install a thru hull water pickup or unable to clean out the original hole to reinstall a new stock system. Many dealers seem to successfully try hard to talk owners into a whole new transom assembly to fix this. $2,000.00ish.

To cover the hole, http://www.mercruiserparts.com/Show...inbr=1943&bnbr=310&bdesc=GIMBAL+HOUSING+COVER

hey all,

Sorry its taken me so long to get back to this thread. Its been a busy time!.

Id like to formally report back that after changing the inlet hose through the transom (pictured previously in this post), my overheating problems are now a thing of the past!.

So to summarise, i changed the following.........in the order they appear.

1) brand new manifolds and elbows
2) removed all old pieces of broken impellor from the cooling system
3) Removed flappers from exhaust
4) Brand new raw water pump
5) New thermostat
6) Replaced crushed inlet host from outdrive

And you guessed it, even though the others definately all needed to be done, the last one is what made all the difference. !!!

Thanks to everyone for your guidance and help, i sure learned alot through this, making my boating days safer and happier!

we call that condition - " bravoitis "

most popular ( read easiest & least expensive plus permanent ) option - thru hull intake
