mercruiser 5.7 EFI - Bravo Three prop selection

Hello,

I am in the process of choosing new props for my boat fitted with 350 mpi and bravo three.

Right now I am turning 22p three blades.
I am cruising at 3600 rpm making 28.7 mph and WOT is 5000rpm making 39 mph.
So obviously I need to go up one pitch.
Since 23p are not available, 24p is next.

My question is, which of the following would you choose and why.

What about the delima between Hill Marine 4 blades and Mercruiser 3 blades?

I went from the standard Bravo 3 props to the matte finished Bravo 3 XR props (4 blade front, 3 blade rear prop set). I stayed with the same prop pitch. Performance wise, it reduced my RPM's by a couple hundred at WOT. Low end performance is where I noticed the biggest positive change. Not that I previously had any problems, the new props just make it effortless to get on plane and planes at a lower speed.

My set up is the 375 HP 496MAG engine, 1.81 outdrive gear ratio, turning 24P props.

I do have duo prop Bravo 3.

I wonder if Tail_Gunner is questioning the mixing of 4 blade and 3 blade props on the same Bravo 3 outdrive?

The Bravo 3 XR props use the same thrust washers and prop nuts as the Bravo 3 props. Front prop nut is torqued to 100 ft lbs and the rear prop nut is torqued to 60 ft lbs.

I have little practical experience with duo props..Never heard of them being described in pitch...Good luck and a merc prop would be my first and only choice

He doesn?t have a DUO-PROP, he's got a Bravo III

Bravo III props are ALWAYS "described in pitch" ......... Only Volvo uses a "number" to designate their prop selection. Then you have to go to a chart to decide what prop to use. (DUO-PROP is a registered Volvo trade mark)


Mercury recently started offering 4-blade/3-blade mixed props. There's also an aftermarket company offering 4-blade/4-blade combinations. They're NOT CHEEP!!

3/3 is usually the best compromise for performance unless you're going to repower with a "BIGGER" engine......

Adding more blades without adding more power will ALWAYS kill your top end..."Duo-Prop" or otherwise....(more blades = more drag)...it'll probably always improve your hole-shot and low speed acceleration though......
