Hello all. my boat is a 2003 Crownline 230EX, 5.0L MPI, serial #0M6068859, Bravo III Outdrive. I have had zero mechanical problems with this boat until last week. I broke a shift cable which I replaced "seemingly" without issue. Shifting the boat was flawless and I took it out on our lake for a test run of maybe 30 minutes without a hitch. On the following weekend I took the boat out again and after about a 30 minute run I heard the Audible Alarm go off and throttled back the motor to idle and checked the oil level (engine gauges read normal for temp and pressure). I noticed that the drive fluid level was low so I topped it off but the alarm continued as I proceeded to the closest dock. As I got close to the dock and shifted into neutral the engine died. I checked the levels again (smooth water), turned the key off and switched the batteries to the off position hoping that that would clear the "code" if that was the issue. The alarm still sounds and the only way I can start the engine and keep it running is to click it into neutral and give it some throttle to get it to stay running. I started it and was able to pop it into gear quickly enough to get back to my home dock but it died again as soon as I tried to get it into reverse. A friend suggested it was a fuel pump, another suggested a fuel pressure switch and in looking "on-line" some of these motors have two fuel pumps one being a "boost" pump and one in some kind of cool box. The only one I see is #861155A3 that sits right on top of the fuel filter but I hate to start replacing parts if that's not the issue, Was it just coincidental that the stall at idle issue happened at the same time as the Alarm sounding? Could this have anything to do with replacing the shift cable? I marked the adjuster barrel on the old cable and reset it to the same position on the new cable and it seemed t work without any issues. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated greatly!
