Running normal coming in when prop sounded like it wasn't all the way in the water, then sound got progressively louder and I lost thrust. Checked prop and spins freely in neutral and engaged in gear. Had to keep motoring to tuck into calmer water. I ran boat at 2000 rpm and 7 mph (very noisy) hoping it would get me to safety, 30 minutes later, pop, engine died, lost electrical. Turned power off, checked fuses (none blew), checked engine temp and fluids(all were normal) turned power back on and boat would not crank over. I then tossed the anchor over and waited for a 6 hour tow back to dock. Anyone have idea on what to focus on ( other than get new boat) Lol.
I first thought maybe the prop and shear pin, but now I'm thinking transmission or upper unit issue.

welcome aboard

what year motor/drive

there are no shear pins, however there is an elastomer hub

does your prop turn in both directions when in gear? if so, is the prop nut and shaft turning with it? if yes, then something in your drive is toast. if no, then your prop hub is toast.

Howdy

Sounds are hard to explain but can you give any more kind of info on what the sound was like?
Do you get a click or any sound when the key is turned to start?

Key sentence here is 'boat would not turn over'.

Your engine died with a pop and then you had nothing? AllDodge's question is a great place to start - what exactly was happening when your engine died? I can imagine a lot of different things that can seize up, but the symptoms would be totally different if you have no electrical power and nothing at all is happening. If you have a mechanical failure then your starter should at least be crunching into the flywheel even if it can't turn over.
