Mercruiser 5.0 MPI, audio warning system going off

I have a 2006 Mercruiser 5.0 MPI, ser# OW381688, with 288 hrs. Last weekend the audio warning and check engine went off while I was running. The audio was two beeps every one minute and the check engine on the gauge stayed on. When I got back to the dock the engine would not idle. After reading some threads it sounded like the IAC went bad. I ran the boat the next day and when I got to where I was going the boat idle perfect and ran good the rest of the weekend.

I do not have a scanner but have order an IAC. My concern is when I replace the IAC, assuming it is the IAC will the audio warning system stop beeping and will the check engine go off on it?s own or will I have to reset the code.

Any help will be appreciated.

Don't start throwing parts at it, or you will go broke in a hurry.

Thanks for the advise, I called my local dealer they can't look at the boat until June 11; That's why I'm trying trying to diagnose the problem myself. If the IAC doesn't work I'm just going to wait for the shop to look at the engine.

Thanks for the info on the guardian system too.
