Ok guys I installed the electronic ignition but before I did that I checked the power to the coil on the purple/white wire I had 12 volt I thought that was a resister wire why am I seeing 12 volts after I installed the pertronix kit I ran the engine and checked power at the coil with the engine running I was 13.6 volts do I still have to replace this wire and on the choke there is a purple wire is that the wire I should splice in a the new wire to also after all that I still have my problem it runs great I bring it up to w.o.t and it only last 30 seconds or so did Boggs down I have to pull back in order to keep it running then troll home not sure if that wire is the problem or maybe fuel ? Thanks for reading any thoughts ?

The purple (but probably faded) is a solid non stranded wire. When you turn the key to start the engine a full 12v is supplied to the coil in the starting circuit to assist in easy starts. When the key is in the run position your FORMER points and coil would burn up under constant 12v power so the reduced voltage came from the purple resistance wire. The Petronix needs a full 12v all the time so the Purple resistance wire is replaced with a new 16ga stranded wire from choke + to coil +.

Set your timing at the lowest possible RPM while the engine is in neutral. You are trying to keep the mechanical advance at 0 in your distributor. That's what the weights and springs under your base plate do for you when RPM's rise. Did you clean and inspect those weights and springs?

I did check them and made sure they were all moving freely. Iam going to change out that wire to the coil and if that dont work I will run on a 6 gallon take to rule out tank (screen /anti valve) thanks again I will adjust idle down and recheck timing I will let everybody know my results

Ok guys so I went down to the boat I changed the wire going to the coil straight 12 volts now. Took the boat out and a few min later going around 3800 rpm it bogged down again turn boat around came back up to 3800 rpm and boogied down again so I connected a 6 gallon tank and if never bogged down again I replaced the fuel line and that seemed to work no bogging down
