Mercruiser 4.3 timing procedure

I would like to know what the correct procedure is to set the timing on a 91 Mercruiser 4.3 2bbl mercarb.

Ayuh,... That should be the T-Bolt IV igntion,...
It's just Point,+ Shoot...

I have a 1997 4.3 vortec. Are the timing procedures the same? When I had the engine put in my Wellcraft the first two engines failed. I now have 325 hours on my engine. Was there any issues with the 1997 4.3 Merc Vortec engines with the Alpha one second Gen. out drive? I replaced the single manifold with the old style manifold and riser.
