The bolt closest to the long part is the one that was used when I took it off. The hole lines up a little bit better on the one. Neither of them line up exactly though.

Pretty tuff without measurements... but I could bend one up pretty easy and MOB can drill the holes. EH!

A side view showing the angle of the tab compared to the long end would help.

Sorry but it's already back in the boat. The top drawing shows the angle that you're asking about, on the right side of it. That's what it looked like looking at it from that side. I couldn't really think of how to do pics to show you guys the measurements so I traced it. Even if you don't make the curves on the ends it would still work as they mate up to flat surfaces. The starter worked great and it was nice to get back out on the water.

there is a service buletin out about that bracket from Merc.

I bought one in Canada for about $10.00 from the dealer.

Get the part number first , from the service bulletin or ask the guy at the parts counter ( sometimes works) then buy it, you don't need to make this item.

it doesn't matter which way the big cables attach to the large studs on the solenoid. Those two terminals are just one big switch and internal contact is made when a round disk connects the two terminals when the solenoid is activated. It does make a difference where the accessory wires (the block) connects. It must go wherever the hot cable goes.

makes a HUGE difference which post the positive battery lead goes to. take it to the bottom lead and the starter motor will turn anytime the battery is connected.
as far as the knurl on the bolts, its a one time use thing. once its interferenced fit with the block hole counterbore it sould NOT be resued especially with a PGM style starter.
