I have a 70s Merc 165 250 inline 6 with an id next to distributor of F0902 AB If correct the F0902 are location, month and date of manufacture but I've had no luck identifying "AB" which I believe is the year. Also is the serial number on the valve cover (4665746 in this case) also located somewhere on the block?

its a GM 250 block and heads. [h=2]165 1970-1977[/h]

your serial number will dial you into the mercruiser bits bolted on to it.

What I'm finding is that the valve cover with serial number and engine may not be original to one another. No serial number located on block near starter. Engine may be early 70s but serial number is later. Some parts differ.
