merControl ignition and wiring issue

So now that we have the harness what controller can I use? I'd prefer to change it and get away from the current setup.

I'm happy to report I installed the key switch today and did what you recommended and cut the wires back 6 inches and she is all back together

Took the boat out for its first time this season. Motor starts and runs like a champ. Won't go into gear now

I would even consider changing from a key start to a push button or just an on off toggle switch.

Im no electrician by any means. How would I go about wiring in a toggle switch?

I mean looks like to me there are several wires. A link to a diagram or simple explanation would be greatly appreciated.

If the switch works now why do you want to wire an external toggle switch? The switch has nothing to do with the shifting; the LU has a mech. rod that turns maybe you need to drop LU and reinstall according to the instructions on the first page of this forum.
