I just bought a 1998 Rinker 232 Captiva Cuddy with a 5.7 250 hp and Bravo 3 outdrive with s/s duoprops. This is my first MercCruiser/Bravo 3 combination. Is this a good combo. Any good/bad about this engine and/or outdrive I should know about?

Thanks, John

Hi John-
The Merc. 5.7 is a good engine for your boat. (I also have a 23 footer/ 5.7) As far as the Bravo 3, all I can say is they are normally installed on heavier cruiser-type boats for good "bite" getting out of the hole. While they work fine for their purpose, they are NOT the preferred drive for top end/high speed. I've heard the best a B3 boat can hope for is 45 MPH, even with a big block. I also know a guy that's had a big problem with galvanic corrosion on his B3.
