I have a 2 barrel merc carb serial number 807312, I am going to attempt my first rebuild of it due to some issues I have been having. Not to mention I have owned the boat for 16 years and it has never been done. Anyways my question is, I am waiting on my rebuild kit to include a brass float. Can anyone on here tell me where to measure from on that type of float? The plastic style apparently has some dots on them to measure too, I don't think this is the case with the brass style. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

you flip the assembly over, and with gravity pulling the float to the top, you measure between the top and the float. instructions will have a picture and a dimension.

When I replaced my float I basically eyeballed where it would be on the float when switching to brass vs the dots. If I recall the seam on it is roughly parallel to the lid.

You may want to consider getting a ultrasonic cleaner from Harbor Freight- using one has improved my carb rebuild batting avg (AKA fixed right the first time) to 100% ...
