have a 96' 150hp carbed merc, recently rebuilt. seems to idle cold, runs well under throttle, but when warmed up, will not idle in forward gear. It dies when trying to put the boat back on the trailer after running for a while. Seems to have a fuel delivery problem, sometimes hard to prime with bulb. Have seen a small amount of fuel leaking from bolt on fuel pump. Can anyone offer suggestions here? I'm thinking fuel pump leak, hope it's not crank case pressure leak anywhere else.

grandx

Fuel leking from the pump? I would tighten them to the torque specified, and check it before running it under it's cowl. Fuel fumes under there can collect, and ignite.

12footer, I have tightened bolts, still leaks when bulb gets hard. You think this is causing idle problems as well? should I replace fuel pumps entirely or just a gasket or 2?

I would go out on a limb ,and say it's 99% chance this is your idle problm,Garndx.
I won't go out on the ol limb on the leak, as I would want to see it. these pumps do have rubber diaphrams in them, and the repair kits are cheap, but you might have a cracked housing,(fuel pump)in which case, the kit wont take care of your problem.
I would take it back to the wrench that rebuilt it,and point-out the problem. If it didn't leak before, and now it does, I'd make him/her fix it a gunpoint (just kiddin). But if he is worth taking it to in the future, he will repair it for you labor free (but might charge you for the parts).
