Hello to all, thanks for the previous help.

I tinker with motors (two stroke motorcycles)and so naturally, I would really like to play with my V6 135 on my 19ft Sea Ray 180 BR. I was wondering just what the difference between the 1989 Sea Ray (Mariner 135?) vs. a Merc 150 is??

I've checked for puchasing spare parts and
the cylinder heads, pistons, intake reed block housing, reeds, mid-section exhaust tubes, exhaust plates, all seem to be the exact same numbers (using Doug Russell Marine.com).

All I can come up with is that perhaps the "advance module" on the 150 may be different?
My 135 has an "idle stabilizer", and some of the 150's seem to have an "advance module that advances the idle as well as cuts the timing at max rpm. My Seloc manual says the initial and other timing settings are the same? Bore, Stroke, and max rpm are all the same.

Anybody know what the difference is?

hawktuner,

I'm not sure,by I'd look at the carbs. Not just the jetting, but the throttle bore. You'll need a service manual for the specs.(probably Merc/Mariner factory issues).

Engines really are air pumps. For more power, you have to get more air in,as well as out.

DHP

DHP,

Thanks for the reply.

Carbs are a good idea. I'll check them.

I've also seen some data in my manual (seloc)
that suggests that pre-86 V6's had an intake
reed "stop setting" that varied from .200" to .300". I can certainly see how that could be used to "govern" a 150 down to a 135. However, the manual also says that since 86, there are no settings. Any thoughts?
