I'm rebuilding my 1977 85 hp Merc outboard serial#459 5094. I'm currently replacing the water jacket.(Piece of metal after removing the exhaust cover and baffle plate.) Clymers repair manual doesn't state the torque for these bolts.
What's the torque?
Should I dress the gasket with any kind of adhesive or use it dry?
I was told to mix a two part epoxy for the bolts as a thread lock. Have you heard of this?
thanks Chris

Re: Merc torque specs

Hi Chris,
Torque= 150 in.lbs.
Put gasket on dry(hope you got a -1 or a --1
gasket)
I never reuse the old plate as they are warped and usually spray water into the cylinders.
Merc recomends Resiweld Sealer on these bolts
an extreemly high temperature epoxy.
Good luck.
...have fun...corm

------------------
cubic inches = power
power = speed
speed = FUN
