Merc Mark 55a 1959 question

My dad is working on putting this motor back together and is wondering if he needs to have the upper cam reverse lock in any special order. Hes saying that he wasn't sure of the orientation of the gears (forward/nuetral/reverse) were at when he disassembled it, and needs to know what he should set the gears to before he assembles it back together. Thanks for the help guys!

Great motor! I had one a few years back and loved it!. Put the LU and control in N to re-assemble. Now, looking at which way the shift shaft turns for reverse, you should be able to determine which way to put the reverse-lock cam back on. There is a lobe which will actuate the locking mechanism when turned in the correct direction. I hope that helped.
