Merc 90 or Yamaha 90?

What are the pros and cons assuming the same price. The engine will be on a 1870 xpress jon boat run in the Alabama Delta waterway (mostly brackish water). <br /><br />Any and all opinions would be appreciated.

Is that based on durability, dependability, service records or what? I also heard Yamaha and Mercury make parts for each other. Are they really the same engine????<br /><br />One last question please. Is there a web site where I could see a new (2002) yamaha 90 outboard. I do not even know what they look like.<br /><br />Thanks again.

Hey, Dog. Yamaha's reputation is based on success. Users love them. <br /><br />Reliability, performance and service seem to be a cut above everyone else.<br /><br />Yamaha and Mercury (and Honda) use parts made by the other(s).<br /><br />Red sky at night...<br />JB

Yammies are the "Meg Ryan of outboards". They're pretty, built well, and very strong for thier size...But unfortunately, they command a very high price, because they know what they got.
