hi <br />to all just keeping you up to date.<br />stator checked ok and trigger been replaced<br />call from dealer tells me he has spark on 3 cyl on my way their now to have a chat looks like it could be switch box gone this is the new one hope not if so will have to make a 800 kl round trip to be on the water by 27th<br />will keep you informed thanks

rex<br />no it does not spark on no 3 as well<br />have sent you mail sorry about how long but we are not happy with dealer.<br />to the rest of you good people to cut story short was running out of time as work is going crazy here left to dealer to fix big mistake should have kept boat at home with all info from this site i am sure i would be on the water bye now he has only just rechecked switch box guess what not working now waiting on part but i still think wires are not good will let you all know soon many thanks to your help you guys are great all enjoy a merry xmas we will be back ...... and on the water soon thanks again cheers.

hi rex<br />have sent you some email did you get it was not sure and resent time here is 1.39 am<br />what we have is a bad switch box and new one not arrived yet due to public hol days stator is fine and trigger. needto check ground wires and coil bank grounds. i have funny feeling about box why did last one go andwas the new one faulty from start of did it get a spike and where from i have been studying and results say from stator but when new box was fitted so was a new stator ?<br />they say not to use maintance free battery as they can over charge and blow packs i do have one fitted but was not their when first pack went down only thing i can see that controls this is rectifer is this right.

Like ODDD1 said is very true.. However check a few things before going back to the cdi pack. We went thru this the other night on another engine but your problem sounds a little different but lets check to make sure anyway.<br /><br /> First of all you either have a regulator and rectifier combination or just a rectifier. Most just have the rectifier. The rectifier just converts AC voltage from the stator to DC voltage to charge the battery. The rectifier does NOT regulate the voltage so you can overcharge the battery and voltage can rise high enough (above 17 volts approx.)to blow the CDI pack. I suggest having a indash voltage gage to watch for this or convert to a voltage regulator type rectifier. However if you dont just monitor the volt gage and if it starts getting high..(Load up the system) In other words turn stuff on to reduce the voltage.<br /><br />Now just for giggles let assume your battery is fully charged and your starter is turning the engine over correctly (no low cranking speeds). Remove all sparkplugs and ground them to the engine block and crank the engine and see if all sparkplugs are firing. If so remove wires from the rectifier and install sparkplugs and retest. If engine now runs correctly replace the rectifier. Let me know if this does not work and we might do some more testing. Also bad grounding of the cdi pack can blow it..Clean ground connections and check for tightness. good luck

hi to all<br />we have blast off put in new switch box no 2<br />have left kill wire off, it is not showing any power on wire but i will keep testing it to make sure .coils and box have good grounds we are going fishing let you know how we do cheers and many thanks for the info

hi guys<br />we have been on the water for 9 days all is going well.<br />replaced switch box but left kill switch off<br />no power on kill switch line at off or acc but have volts at crank is this right.<br />pulled down harness it is very sick but could not see where it could jump across renewing harness at home all i can think of is ing /switch might be jumping across.<br />parts replaced triger/stator/box all were going to give trouble soon as they all lost <br />coatings. all i have found is wires to rectifer to stator cooked and orange wires from kill switch one goes to merc switch which this fool thought was a condenser and other orange wire to kill on box, which should mean rectifer is cooked is this right as stator showed no signs of heat i am not game to put kill wire back till we have tested also red wire to rectifer looked cooked. rex i sent you some specs on your motor that you were asking for hope you received this is before i left dont open any thing ater 6/1/02 to 9/1/02 as we got a big virus.... but we are free now write soon.

schematic / oddd 1 / rex /trent / jungnim 2<br />thank you to all your help was very usefull<br />we now have a motor that is singing it is going great. main defect would have to be<br />switch box ( new one faulty ) which was change last and then it ran fine. but stator and trigger where going to go if not already given promblems as wires where bad right up to sealed areas also harness was<br />bad have redone harness cost $1300 all up hurts but this motor has been so good to me over 15 years its worth it and after reading<br />about new motors i am not sure what to buy and what year to me this old thing keeps going and lasts it still as good grunt and cheap to run would love to have bigger motor<br />but why get rid of a good one you know . thanks again to all this is agreat site with good people cheers
