had no spark on 1&2 replaced box and stator<br />have spark and ran well for 20 min now have no spark on 3&4. trigger test ok can you help<br />year 77.[*]null

it did have alot of wire coating breaks<br />have traced back and replaced back to motor but have not checked from motor to control<br />shifter

have motor in dealers i think i am being taken on a long road to answer. motor ran very well untill it was rev at higher speed<br />then it droped spark on 3 & 4 man it is costing a heap hope some one as a common<br />answer. it is a good motor but elect are driving me crazy. help..

Hi Flips<br />I'm no merc expert, but I would recommend getting a manual and checking the wiring, trigger coils, charge coils and pack. All can give the same result. Also be sure the coils are well grounded.<br /><br />I've cut open a few merc packs, and trust me, they had their share of problems. But don't jump to conclusions until you've checked the wiring, charge and trigger coils. <br /><br />One more question.........did you replace with new or used parts???<br /><br />Good luck!

hi schematic parts replaced are new dealer seems to think might be trigger , tested ok but i think it could be in wiring somewhere seems strange that this promblem started on 1&2 now has moved to 3&4 will pull wires down and recheck thanks for you input will let you know how we do.

Flips did you get my e-mail?<br />Capacitor did he change it.<br />When one goes out it shut down the engine.<br />Since it summer down there you got a chance to try it out.<br />If you or your friend have any thing to ask <br />please e-mail me. flips:<br />being as how you lost 2 cylinders at once and the trigger coil is good, odds are its a charge coil gone south...<br /><br />let us know.....<br /><br />good luck

rex yes i did thanks did not get back to shop to look will let you know info you sent will be handy . need to beat this black beast so i can go fishing on 27/dec. or family will not like rowing.

schematic<br />when you say charging coil to you mean coils on block or stator. stator is new and bank of coils 4 inline (at first i lost spark to cyl 1-2 after replacing stator with new one it lost spark to cyl 3-4 and 1and 2 are fine great spark hopes this helps. i have alot to look at this weekend on the black beast hope i can retame it.

Trent:<br />thats an awsome website.....alot of good info in one place!<br /><br />flips:<br />I don't have the exact schematic for your engine but I believe you have 2 CD charge coils, 4 trigger coils and a battery charging coil all under the flywheel.<br /><br />And of course you have a power pack and 4 ignition coils mounted externally. correct?<br /><br />what would cause 2 cylinders to drop out..<br /><br />>although you say it ran good for a short time.....recheck wire placement. Two swapped wires will change the color of your hair to grey!!<br /><br />>one bad charge coil(supplies 2 cyl.)check by comparing voltages from one charge coil to other while idling<br /><br />>bad common ground(loose mounting screw) on trigger coil (pull flywheel and re-inspect stator mounting bolts)<br /><br />>bad trigger coil assmy.(compare voltage at each trigger input on pack while idling)<br /><br />>2 bad ign. coils...rare at one time(swap with other two, does problem follow?)<br /><br />>bad pack(when charge coil inputs and trigger coil inputs are proven OK, and ign. coils are proven OK and all wiring, connections and ground have been addressed,<br />try another pack....<br /><br />good luck!<br /><br />

Flips, just because you have new parts on the motor , dont assume they are ok....if you lost 3&4 cyl it is 2 bad coils [doubtful] , half of your stator failed or a bad swichbox....a bad trigger coil will kill 2 cylinders, but if i remember right the shared cylinder pairs are 1&3 and 2&4.....remember, new parts do sometimes fail, that is why there is something called warrantee......

PULL THE FLYWHEEL AND CHANGE THE WIRES TO <br />THE OTHER BACK BOX AND SEE IF #1 AND #2 <br />START TO FIRE.<br />IF SO THEN YOU KNOW WHERE YOU ARE GOING.<br />IT NOT THE BOXES IT UNDER THE FLYWHELL<br />AND MAYBE A BAD WIRE LIKE YOU SAID.<br />GOOD LUCK<br />REX A.
