Hi I got an impeller for my motor. Got the lower off and everything apart. Going to put the impeller in and I notice the impeller pin groove is different than the one that came off. Based on the serial number this should be a 1965 so that is the impeller I got. However there is a different impeller for 66-68. Would anyone know the difference? The one I bought has a pin grove that goes about half way through the length of the center. The impeller that came off has spin groove that goes all the way through the impeller center groove. Does anyone have any thoughts if this an issue or if they know the difference between the impellers based on years. Thanks!

The early motors used a round pin to drive the impeller.--------Impeller had a short keyway on one side.-------Later impellers used a flat drive key and a groove the full length.-----On an old motor like that parts may have been changed out over the years.-------Just overhauled a white model 60 like that this winter and that is how it was , with the drive pin and short keyway.

Do I need a different pin then or can I just try to access it from the top?

You can use a small file to open up the groove a bit to make your pin work. As long as whatever you have on the driveshaft engages the impeller, it's all good. It should NOT engage snugly as it should be able to float on the shaft, just a hair. If it's tight on the shaft it can wear unevenly by being too tight against the top or bottom of the housing.

I hope that's clear enough. Great information on the piece needing to go easy and not be forced. I've heard using grease to hold it in place and a zip tie to compress the fins. As long as everyone is convinced this will work I'll give it a whirl.

As suspected in my first post the driveshaft has been replaced.-----Need a flat key.------So now you need the impeller that ends with 80 or 81.-----------They are for a different diameter .shafts.

So this the model number I have. Do you know which part number fits this? Is this the number that ends in 80 or 81 that you were referencing?

That is not the same as the 80 or 81 impeller.-----It is the aftermarket impeller for the original ( ends with 48 ) impeller.------Is there a number on the impeller you took out ?--------See a dealer and ask for help !!------The shaft in your motor is a newer one.-----This is all straight forward for me , sorry.

Factory impeller #'s start with 47.----If you could walk over I could show you the different shafts and the 3 different impellers.--Likely you won't.----So find your local shop with an older / patient mechanic and have them explain it all to you.

Follow up on this. Decided to just button it back up because the impeller looked ok. Still going to keep the one I ordered today. But when I put it all back together it's actually pumping water better. Not sure maybe the impeller was on backwards before. Still not coming out the pisser but it's spewing out the exhaust a lot better. Another thread I found said according to the manual it's ok if there is nothing coming out of the pisser as long as the exhaust is flowing good. Anyway happy with where I'm at now thanks for all the help.
