Alright so today I'm winterizing the boat that I bought this year (never winterized a boat on my own) and I found all the drain plugs except the last bottom one on the block was giving me trouble, didn't see it anywhere.. So I asked my dad and he came out and showed me what is supposed to be the drain plug on this side.. And here's what is in its place. Appears to be some sort of pipe, I never had noticed it leaking any water but after sticking a nail inside it some nasty grit and little water came out.. It appears to be clogged shut with the stuff.. So I'm guessing I need to get this out to get all the water out the block but the question is how? I can turn the pipe.. Until it gets stuck on the engine. And why would it be like this

remove the brass nipple first, then remove the fitting and install the correct type

I think he will need to remove the pipe stub first, then remove the fitting.

Yeah.. And I don't know what to use to get that pipe stub off either. My dad was thinking he'd bring home the grinder from work and cut it off till it's short enough to turn that fitting. Why would someone have put that in there like that?!? I've been reading horror threads about these plugs and cracked blocks for the past hour..

tWhy would someone have put that in there like that because that didnt have a clue of what goes in there

The brass stub is the brass nipple, use very small pipe wrench or disc wheel.then carefully unscrew the 90 deg fitting. Dont leave the threads exposed because the block will rust up. Install a brass plug or the brass fitting that takes the blue winged plastic plugs. I have never broken one yet, besides the brass plugs are solid
