Merc 300 Bravo slips out of cruise

Merc 6.2 300 Bravo 3 issue
I have a 2017 Regal 26 Express with a Merc 6.2l 300. All was well until it wasn’t. Engine slips out of gear at any RPM. Sometimes it stalls engine, sometimes just shifting to neutral and back into gear resolved issue. Sometimes I can run 30 minutes with no issue, sometimes it slips out every 5 minutes. Engine RPM drops from set position to idle until shift back to neutral. Initially I thought it was a gas issue but I changed filter and ran 2 tanks and still have issue. I have Merc VesselView and it is not recording any issues. OBD sensor on boat beeps twice when it slips. Leg oil was changed before it went in water and oil level is fine. . Any ideas?

Have a serial number of the motor?

Does boat have DTS (Digital Throttle Shift)?

A couple more observations. First, I don’t know if a problem is causing the boat to shift out of gear, or if the boat is slipping out of gear causing the problem.

Second, when the boat slips out of gear and the RPM drop, the VesselView screen shows a disconnect message suggesting what ever happened caused either a loss of data or power on the bus to the VesselView. I disconnected the VesselView today just to eliminate any potential that Besselview was corrupting something on the bus causing this issue. I had the issue again today after disconnect VesselView. Boat slipped out of gear 4 times in 30 minutes running at 3500-4000 RPM. On the return 30 minute trip it did not slip out at all.

My guess
Most likely cause is a bad connection, loose or corroded. Power is interrupted so the solenoid operating the shifting goes into neutral and the PCM throttles back because it's not in gear.

I would start at the battery and work my way thru every connection. Turn Bat switch OFF then remove each Bat cable and other wire (keep alive), clean nice shinny metal, then reinstall. Do same with all ground connections

Look close at the keep alive wires, there is a inline fuse and see if it's seated and clean.

If nothing shows up then move on the starter and ground block connections. Might need to pull motor connectors apart and reconnect.

RESOLVED! It appears you guys are magicians! Thank you. I found the dealer did not put a nut on the aux battery stud that holds the aux wires. I put a nut on the stud securing the wires and have run over an hour with no issues. I’m disappointed in the quality control at the dealership but most impressed with the help you provide the.
